Keep debris out when the metal is still hot — rated to 500°F

High-Temp FME foam plugs are built for work the standard sponges can't take. A different high-temperature foam composition is fully encased in flame-retardant laminate, giving a continuous rating of 500°F (260°C) — more than double the 212°F limit of the standard line. That means you can seal openings during and right after hot work, on warm turbines, steam and exhaust systems, and heat-treat operations, without pulling the plug just to wait for cooldown.

Why High-Temp

  • 500°F (260°C) continuous rating — the only Safe-T-Sponge round good above 212°F.
  • High-temperature foam core (a different material than the standard sponges), fully encased in flame-retardant laminate on every face.
  • Added spark and abrasion resistance from the sealed flame-retardant skin.
  • Same fast FME workflow — compression fit, loop-pull removal, no pump or tools needed.
  • Low-halogen, low-metals construction — documented low-contaminant standard, independent lab testing, lot-number traceability.
  • Patented design, made in the U.S.A.

Where they're used

Post-weld FME before full cooldown, steam turbine overhauls, boiler and exhaust systems, heat-treatment work, and any hot piping, tubing, or valve opening where Foreign Object Damage (FOD) is a risk and temperatures exceed the 212°F limit of standard sponges.

Use & care (always follow site FME procedures)

  • Choose a size that seats snugly with compression but still inserts and retracts easily; position the loop below any tooling used afterward and keep it centered.
  • Inspect before, during, and after use; account for and replace any damaged plug.
  • Vacuum loose debris before retracting the plug.
  • Rated for high heat, but keep away from direct welding slag, grinding sparks, open flame, and ignition sources.
  • Avoid acetone and alcohol-based solvents and oils — they can weaken the laminate bond. Don't soak or immerse. Don't step on or cut the plug.
  • Attach a lanyard per your site standards — required for vertical-down applications.
