Laminated FME Foam Plugs — Round Debris Exclusion Sponges with Protective Top (Safe-T-Sponge®)

The reusable round plug — protective laminate for tougher, longer service
Laminated FME foam plugs are our round debris-exclusion sponges topped with a bonded protective laminate. The laminate face shrugs off the abrasion, sharp edges, and rough handling that wear out bare foam, so each plug stands up to repeated insertions, wipes down easily between uses, and lasts noticeably longer on the job. Same compression "squeeze" fit, same fast loop-pull removal — built to be used again and again.
Why step up to laminated
- Protective laminated top resists abrasion, slag spatter, and sharp openings that tear unprotected foam.
- Built for reuse — the sealed top wipes clean and holds its shape through many cycles, lowering cost per use.
- Compression fit that stays put — choose a size that seats with at least 3/8" (9.5 mm) of squeeze on all sides.
- Low-halogen, low-metals foam — manufactured to a documented low-contaminant standard with independent lab testing on every batch; suitable for nuclear and fossil work.
- Adjustable pull loop centers for fast, clean extraction.
- Patented design, made in the U.S.A.
Where they're used
Turbine overhauls, boiler tubes, piping and tubing runs, valve bodies, new fabrication, and aerospace/automotive assembly — anywhere Foreign Object Damage (FOD) is a risk and Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) is required, especially when plugs see repeated use or rougher openings.

Use & care (always follow site FME procedures)
- Insert with the laminate/loop side facing up toward the opening; position the loop below any tooling that follows.
- Inspect before, during, and after use; account for and replace any worn, frayed, or damaged plug.
- Vacuum loose debris before retracting the plug.
- Keep away from welding slag, grinding sparks, flame, and ignition sources.
- Avoid acetone and alcohol-based solvents and oils. Don't soak or immerse. Don't step on or cut the plug.
- Attach a lanyard per your site standards — required for vertical-down applications.
Looking for laminated plugs under 5"? The small diameters (1"–4") come laminated and are sold by the bag — see our Original FME Foam Plugs listing.
