Perfect Purge FME Weld Dams — Reusable Pipe Purge Dam with Gas Fitting (Safe-T-Sponge®)

Protect the weld root, waste less argon — a reusable purge dam that sets up in seconds
When you weld pipe with an inert-gas process (TIG/GTAW, MIG), the inside of the joint has to be flooded with argon so the weld root doesn't oxidize or "sugar." The Perfect Purge dam does exactly that: a conforming foam dam with a built-in gas fitting seals one side of the weld zone and feeds purge gas straight into the chamber. Paired with a second dam on the far side, it contains the purge to a small volume — protecting root quality while using far less gas than packing the line with tape, paper, or film.
Why crews switch to it
- Built-in gas fitting — inject purge gas directly through the dam; no separate injector rig to fuss with.
- Reusable foam — unlike water-soluble paper or film, it's not consumed in the weld and needs no flush-out afterward, saving labor and cleanup.
- Conforms to the pipe ID for a snug seal and a tight purge volume, which means less argon to reach a low-oxygen weld zone.
- Fast in, fast out — seat it, purge, weld, pull it by the loop.
- Low-halogen, low-metals construction with lot-number traceability; nuclear & fossil compatible.
- Made in the U.S.A.
Choose your configuration
- Complete Set — one gas-fitting purge dam plus one laminated dam for the opposite side: everything you need to purge a single joint.
- Dam Only — just the gas-fitting purge dam, for replacement or when you already have a second dam on hand.
Specifications
- Sizes: 5"–38" (matched to pipe inside diameter)
- Configurations: Complete Set (dam + laminated sponge) or Dam Only

- Reusable: yes — not a single-use consumable
- Lead time: made to order, about 5 business days.
- Origin: Made in U.S.A.
Use & care (always follow site welding & FME procedures)
- Place a dam on each side of the weld zone; connect purge gas to the fitting and verify oxygen levels before striking an arc.
- Ensure adequate ventilation — purge gases can displace oxygen in enclosed spaces.
- Inspect before and after each use; account for and replace any damaged dam.
- Keep clear of direct slag and prolonged extreme heat beyond the temperature rating.
- Don't soak in solvents or oils; don't cut or step on the dam.
- Attach a lanyard for vertical-down placement so the dam is always retrievable.
